Important Week 4 & 5 Info!
It's been a beyond hectic week here.. battling a flu, a short weekend getaway, and preparing for oral surgery tomorrow morning have made it impossible for me to get the winner announced tonight.. I am truly, so sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
I haven't had a chance to update the site with new participants, etc… but will ASAP. Keep sending them in, I'll receive it!! Also, I'm running low on sponsors — alot of people have expressed interest, but haven't sent me the info… please do! The same goes for tutorials — keep them coming! Lastly, I'll answer all your emails, just as soon as I get a chance. The FAQ answers 90% of the questions I receive, so be sure to read it! You can also ask over at the Flick'r Group.. so many of our participants are happy to help if they can.
I will have the Week 4 showcase, and winner announced by Thursday Night at the latest, assuming there are no complications tomorrow. Since I can't anticipate how I'll feel after the surgery, it's difficult to know exactly when. The new challenge, and prize announcement will be announced then as well… I know you'll have less time to complete it, but trust me.. it'll be an easy one for this reason 🙂

Nancy Baumiller is a self-taught mixed media artist from a little town in South Carolina, where she resides with her supportive husband of 5 years and 2 of her 5 children. Nancy found her way into the altered arts world about a year agoafter surfing the net for inspiration for her folk-artsy sculptures, she came across a site by Teesha Moore…the bright colors and quirky images drew her in…. and Nancy decided to try this for herself. She was hooked!
She spends most of her free time in her small studio creating art with anything she can get her hands on. Nancy likes to recycle old objects and turning them into new and different. She also spends part of her time helping others that suffer with depression find therapy through art. No, she is not a legal therapist, just one person who wants to help others find hope and the love for art in this crazy but beautiful world. She has recently opened up a fabulous, and colorful E-bay store as well… be sure to check it out!
Materials List:
- Old CD (Or Any surface, A book to alter, tin, canvas etc)
- Cardstock (Or any paper, business reply cards to recycle are perfect)
- Matte Gel Medium (Or other adhesives, depends on surface you apply it to)
- White or Cream Acrylic Paint
- Antiquing Gel (Or Slightly Watered Down Brown Paint, or Stain)
- 1” Paint Brush or Foam Brush
- Paper Towels
Prep:
- Choose surface you want to alter. (For this tutorial, a CD was used)
- Tear Cardstock into 1” – 3” pieces, depending on size of surface.
Let’s Play!:
1. Using Gel Medium, randomly adhere pieces of paper to surface. Allow to dry.
2. Using Paint brush, completely cover surface with White or Cream paint. Allow to dry.
3. With a clean brush, brush over painted surface with antiquing gel.
TIP!! Since paint and gel can be thick, using a wet brush can help to thin it. Be careful not to thin it too much though!
4. While Antiquing gel is still wet, wipe off excess.
TIP!! Use a wet paper towel, to remove more of the antiquing solution.
There you go! Quick, and easy .. a wonderful base to create upon! For variation, try other color combinations, or use masking tape instead of paper, etc… Use your imagination! Be sure to visit Nancy’s Blog, Website, and E-bay store for even more inspiration!
